Monahans is also home to the newest greenhouse of Village Farms International. They are the largest producers, marketers and distributors of premium quality, greenhouse grown tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers in North America. Texas fresh produce farmed using environmentally friendly methods that employs the highest food safety standards available in the industry. Village Farms has completed the first 30 acres phase of the Monahans greenhouse. They will provide local jobs for up to 400 employees on completion of final phase. Monahans has a fantastic school system. The district has been designated as "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency and has maintained that status for a number of years. The school district provides jobs to about 310 employees. There are seven campuses, educating about 2,192 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. The school district offers occupational and physical therapy, special transportation for the handicapped, educational diagnosticians and registered nurses on campus along with a Dropout Recovery Program. The town also offers between sixty and seventy retail and wholesale services, close to twenty restaurants and thirty churches.
